I was never allowed to sleep with a specific stuffed animal when I was a kid, which probably explains why I now sleep with Puppy every night. No matter what.
Puppy is 26 years old. He travels with me whether I'm working, going camping, or traveling to Europe.
Puppy has survived eight real-life puppies. He's very important to me. Curiously, I've been finding Puppy on the floor a lot lately. Thinking I was just being sloppy, I took the blame for poor Puppy's position on the floor.
Until, that is, I walked into the bedroom one evening and saw Talos rooting and digging. And throwing Puppy over the edge.
I couldn't believe it. It just couldn't be. Talos was giving Puppy the boot! I've now seen Talos perform this maneuver several times.
Last night I got it on video.
Looks like a rooting or covering up (after burying) reflex.
I thought so too. Until I watched him do this night after night after night. And only with Puppy. And only on the bed. If I put Puppy on the floor, he leaves him alone. If I put anything else on the bed, he leaves it alone. It’s a Puppy thing, I think. What a weirdo he is. 😉

So cute! Great video, and what a wonderful site! I’ve had my first great dane, for a couple of years now, and I still marvel at the number of quirky behaviors that turn out to be ‘dane things’. Otis does the same thing with the extra pillows on our bed or plush toys on his dog bed.
I thought that maybe Otis rootles around like that because, on some level, he realizes that he’s not supposed to put his mouth on pillows and blankets (or in Talos’ case, Puppy) and he’s trying to adjust things to his liking without breaking the rules, but he does the same thing with his own toys on his own bed, the very same ones that he spent the previous hour grabbing and tossing and gnawing to bits.
So it’s a mystery. An adorable mystery.
