We're smack in the middle of a full-fledged blizzard. Which came on the heels of a storm that brought us 30" inches of snow. Which was right before we had 22" of snow. To say that we're up to our ears in snow would be an understatement.
We're lucky because we still have electricity. Many houses lost power in the second storm and are still without it.
Which got me to thinking: what would WE do if we lost power?
The county set up emergency shelters. BUT…no pets allowed. Which means I wouldn't go. I'd rather freeze and/or starve than leave my dogs behind.
Remember Hurricane Katrina? Those people on their roof with their dogs and who refused to leave without their dog? That'd be me. I couldn't, wouldn't leave.
I don't know if the authorities could even physically remove me. I may not be big, but I'm scrappy! I'd definitely put up a fight!
Before the storms came, I stocked up on dog food. I also got lots of canned goods and stocked up on the basics like bread, milk, beer, and brownie mix. (Brownies just came out of the oven, as a matter of fact!). We've kept our cell phones plugged in. We've stockpiled water in the bathtub (to flush toilets if we lose power). We've got lots of blankets. We brought up an entire rack of firewood. Our vehicles have fuel. We'll be fine if we lose power. That's good because I wouldn't leave here without the dogs!
So if we lost power, I guess we'd eat brownies, drink beer, and huddle under the blankets with the dogs around the fireplace. And watch the snow pile up around our windows. All snug as bugs in rugs…

Wow Laurie, that’s impressive! It just stopped here. Another 2 in. Feel free to laugh!!! Let me know what you end up with when this mess is done!

Holy cow, our blizzard warning has been extended until 10p. They took the snow plows off the roads here because it’s simply too dangerous to be on the roads. Airports closed for at least 24 hours. No one’s going anywhere! :0

Scrappy. Hehe.

Yep! I’d be the same way; I have a very nice fireplace and a very well-insulated house, and we’d stockpile and snuggle up here with the 4WD for emergencies. (Our snow isn’t nearly so dramatic as yours, but it did cause a few problems.)
My dogs are all now comfortably sleeping on the couch. Lucky them!

Wow!! I am with you: Under no circumstance would I be separated from my dogs.
On another note, we were supposed to fly to Baltimore last Saturday. The airline is actually suggesting we reschedule for March!

My biggest problem during power outages is boredom! LOL Love my electronics, but I also love a good book, so I guess it isn’t too bad. We have propane and wood heat so I wouldn’t freeze. I like the idea about filling up the bathtub to use for flushing toilets though. 🙂 My biggest worry right now would be keeping my newly hatched chicks warm. I’d have to find some way to rig up a battery powered heat lamp because the brood box can’t get below 100 degrees. Sounds like you did a good job prepping, but I hope you don’t lose your power. 🙂

Tee hee. Yes, I still bring up that old nickname every now and again. I think it fits! 🙂 Thanks Schleicher!!

Oh, little chicks! Yes, you’d have to put them in your pockets to keep them warm. Loose, baggy pockets, that is! 🙂
