That’s Nemo, can’t you pick him out? He’s the Dalmatian + Golden + Newfie + Boxer cross dog. According to the DNA test, there’s nary a drop of Labrador, Great Dane, or Doberman in his blood.
If I make a giant leap, I can see a little bit of each dog except the Golden in Nemo.
The Dal has the chance of being a fair fit — if a Dalmatian was all black, I think Nemo may resemble a Dalmatian. But Nemo has a lot more ear, lip and extra neck skin than a Dal.
The Newfie would be where Nemo gets his height and probably his color, but Nemo definitely didn’t inherit the stocky build or the coat. I can see Nemo’s body type in the Boxer, but not the face, ears, muzzle or coloring.
I’m at a loss as to what traits or genetics came from the Golden…I can’t see a thing in Nemo that’s “Golden-like.”
The DNA test we used hasn’t identified the markers for any Hounds that Nemo might be related to, so there’s a pretty good chance that he may actually have Hound in him. We’re thinking possibly Black & Tan Coonhound maybe. Or even Foxhound, but that’s a stretch. But then again, I think Golden Retriever is even more of a stretch!
If you heard Nemo bark, em…BAY, you’d probably agree that there might just be a little Hound in him somewhere…
Updated: After living 11 years with Neems, we’re firmly convinced he was a Labrador/Hound/Great Dane. The more time we spent with Danes, the more Nemo’s demeanor fit with the Dane. His phenotype (the way he looks), also looks strikingly like a small Dane. In the end, it really didn’t matter what breeds contributed to Nemo, except we’d love to have another dog similar to Nemo in both appearance and behavior. He was a really good dog.
