Nemo is thinking about counter-surfing. Yay!
Nemo is scratching his paw on the door –again– because he wants back outside. Yahoo!
Nemo has followed me 10 feet to the bathroom, that's not big enough for both of us, and insists on staying. Yippee!
Why, you may be asking, would anyone (let alone a dog trainer!) be excited about a dog's bad habits?
Nemo came up lame over the weekend. He plays hard, so an occasional limp isn't cause for concern. But this limp went on for three days. And got worse.
The vet was stumped. He happened to mention the most horrible word: cancer. All of a sudden, I missed everything that Nemo did. The silliness, the annoying things. Everything Nemo.
Long story short, there's no cancer. Nemo's limp is probably due to soft-tissue damage (tendon, ligament, body parts like that). Rimadyl for a week was the prescription.
After just two tablets, Nemo's acting more normal. He's not putting his paws on the counter, but he's at least thinking about it. I'm hoping that by tomorrow, he'll be squeezing into the bathroom with me.
And, what was that I just heard? Interrupting my computer time? Why, it's that glorious paw against the door, telling me that Nemo's requesting his butler (that would be me) to come and let him enjoy the outdoors.
I'm coming, Nemo, I'm coming!

aww…love this post. It’s so true – all the things that drive me nuts about my dogs are the first things I miss when they’re not themselves…

While we’re not out of the woods yet, I’m SO HAPPY to have all those annoying habits. If this indeed, turn out to be something minor, it’s at the very least a great reminder to never take anything for granted, even those annoying things! Ah, I’m so thankful for every annoyance. At least for the next week or so. 😉

I know what you mean. Jasmine has been through so much, she gets away with anything that’s not directly dangerous! 🙂
Good to hear there is no cancer. Keep an eye on things though, some “soft tissue damage” such as cruciate ligament doesn’t just go away that easily. Also be watchful for potential Rimadyl side effects. Watch for any changes in eating and drinking habits and for anything unusual. Did you vet do a blood test prior prescribing the NSAID?

This is so true! My oldest is 12 now, and while she has her share of annoying habits, left over from when we didn’t know any better, I would rather she pester me to take her outside every two hours than sleep all day or gimp around. Every day with our aging buddies is a blessing. 🙂

Laurie,
I know the feeling. Our Boston Terrier, Moose has suddenly lost his vision in his right eye. He has a second appointment with a veterinary opthamologist tomorrow to determine what is going on. One possibility is a tumor in his eye…
The medicine he is on is also making him sick and lethargic- no annoying barking and banging a frisbee against my leg to play with him. I think this worries me the most.
