I found the sport of K9 Nose Work last year and I can't get enough of it! In addition to working with my own dogs, I've assisted at K9 Nose Work Camp in Georgia, I'm attending K9 Nose Work Camp in Pennsylvania in the fall, and I'm on-track to become a Certified Nose Work Instructor at the end of 2011. I hope my dog, Nemo, (the subject of yesterday's post about bad habits), passes his Odor Recognition Test (ORT) at K9NW camp this fall so we can begin competing next year.
My obsession with K9 Nose Work has led to my talking, tweeting, and writing about it, too! I just had a K9 Nose Work article published on Karen Pryor's site Clickertraining.com. And June's issue of Your Smart Dog, is all about K9 Nose Work (as was last month's article). If you're not a subscriber, you're missin' out! Click here to sign up (it's free)!
Last, but not least, here's the video I put together to show people what K9 Nose Work is all about:

I took an intro to nosework class at our local SPCA and I wish I could find more advanced workshops close to home.
Honey, my golden retriever, is a natural. And the surprising benefit is the way it focuses her mind. The moment she hears “find it” she’s in the zone. Nosework has turned out to be a great way to make her feel comfortable around scary things because the focus of the job doesn’t give her room to be frightened.
Just started following you on Twitter. Can’t wait to read more.

I was persuaded to to take a k9 nose work class from a CNWI in march. 3 months later my 2 toy dogs and me can,t get enough of it.

This is a great idea. I have a Search and Rescue dog who is getting older and this would be a great avenue.

Laurie is so awesome! Got to work with her at the 2013 GA K9NW Camp, where I was honored to be an instructor. K9NW is really fun and great bonding for dog & handler, but camp is a whole different experience. You’re immersed in nose work and the energizing effect you get from a few days of camp is amazing. Not to mention the educational value. You get exposed to lots of different ways of thinking about K9 Nose Work and you come away inspired to search for the best ways to introduce people and dogs to this wonderful activity & sport.
Thank you Laurie for being a camp superstar and for writing such informative and fun pieces about K9 Nose Work!
Happy Sniffing!
