Smart Dog U really helped me deal with my first puppy and help me grow her (Etta) into a sweet little girl. Without that training from SDU this would have been a tough journey.
Ingrid CopelandWe did in-home training and group classes which helped us welcome Ember into our family. Her understanding of both dogs and busy families made the training easy and guilt-free.
Beth SchillaciThank goodness I discovered Smart Dog University! Laurie’s methods quickly made me realize that I was the one in need of training. The end result: A well behaved pup (Kasey) who is a true companion!
Matt ChurchLaurie is someone Your Dog’s Friend depends on for good information on dog behavior and training presented in an engaging, understandable way. She has done free workshops for us; we have used her articles in our newsletter; and she is a trainer whom I can refer people to with total confidence.
Debra Ekman, Your Dog’s FriendLaurie is a very knowledgeable and experienced trainer. She does a wonderful job with both the dog and owner. She is easily approachable and genuinely wants to make sure you and your dog are getting the most out of her classes.

There’s a great set of stairs at Harper’s Ferry. When you take the mini-hike across the tracks, at the far end the stairs “open into space”… at least that is the DOG’S perspective. My service dog was very afraid! After going up and down them 3 times now, she is much better, but it takes some encouragement to step off that first step!
Great experiences for Talos!

You have such amazing socialization opportunities where you are! In our little tiny town (the “big” town in our area has 21,000 ppl, to get to more than that it’s more than an hour away!) our socialization opportunities are limited but we do what we can! Thanks again for sharing, we love finding new types of stairs, and those are definitely interesting! 😀

Ooh! I think those stairs would make my tummy clench too. Excellent work, Talos!

Hi Ally,
This location is actually a government building where my husband works. It’s about 22 miles away from us (45 minutes). I make the drive once a week just for the socialization opportunities it presents for Talos. I used to work at this same location and took the service dogs in training with me to work every day. Since I now work out of my home, I’m missing all those opportunities for socialization, which means I have to go looking for them.
So we have lunch once a week with my husband, I take Talos on my errands, Talos goes to all my networking and educational events, and even doctor and dentist appointments (and hair cuts, etc.).
And today, we went away from people so Talos could meet a horse. Not an everyday occurrence for him, that’s for sure! But a novel one, just the same.
