This is a big weekend for the service dogs and Smart Dog U! On Sunday, we're traveling to Charlottesville, VA to Service Dogs of Virginia for Graduation!
Talos is part of the graduating class of 2011. He partnered with Kathy earlier this year and they've been doing fabulously together.
Graduation is a proud moment for the puppy raisers. We get to reap the joy of seeing the pup we raised, all grown up and doing what we raised him to do. It makes this girl's heart swell, I tell you.
For a brief part of the ceremony, each puppy raiser will talk about the experience, the dog, the process. I haven't even thought yet about what I'll say, but I'm sure there will be tears.
When Rocky, our very first service dog graduated, I became so emotional that I had to stop in the middle of my speech. My panicked husband (I promised him he wouldn't have to say a word, I'd be fine…famous last words) had to jump in until I regained my composure. This year, I'll jot a few words on paper. Just in case.
In addition to the graduation, there will be a Puppy Parade to show off all the dogs in training. Our little Caysun will be part of those festivities. Seeing all those dogs and pups in one place at one time will be like heaven on earth for this dog lover.
We'll take plenty of pictures, laugh a lot, and probably shed a few tears. A Graduation Report will be posted next week, so stay tuned!
