Her name is Caysun. She's 9 weeks old. And she's a feisty little black Labrador.
She's the newest service pup in training and is our 11th (12th? Who's counting?) puppy in training. I picked her up last Friday and she spent the weekend getting settled in.
Training has already begun. She's learning to love her crate, go to the bathroom outside and on cue ("hurry up"), bite inhibition (those puppy teeth hurt!), and oh-so-many other things.
Not to worry, I'll be documenting all the lessons and learnings right here.
So far, she's fitting in well with our dogs. The oldest, Lily and Tango, just want to be left alone. If she doesn't cross them, they don't cross her. Nemo's interested, but reserved. Ike is loving the new addition! He's a terrific welcome wagon for the new girl.
I've got lots of puppy video I'll be uploading too, if you need a dose of cute!

Hooray! She’s so cute! You are awesome for raising service dogs – they do such great work out there.

I’m so excited to be coming in on the beginning with your new service dog. I can’t wait to read all about her.
The main reason I adopted Honey was so I would have a stable dog at home that would be comfortable if I either fostered or raised a guide dog. I’m struggling so much with my schedule right now that I’m wondering if I’ll ever have time to do either. So I’m really interested in seeing what it takes.

Thanks for stopping in. Puppies can really draw a crowd. 😉 We’re looking forward to another pup, but man, I always forget how much attention they need!

Stinky cute, right? You should see her fat little belly. I die every time I pick her up.

It’s quite an adventure, raising a service pup! There are ups and there are downs. Those that followed the saga of Talos, the Great Dane, saw a lot of both extremes! The highs were so much fun, but the turn-in was so much a LOW! In the end, though, it’s a fun ride and all worth it. Thanks for stopping by and do let me know if there are things you want to know more about! I’d love to make this as interactive and as fun as I can.

Oh God, is she cute! My gasp at the adorable made Elka wake up for a second and look at me, but she settled down again.
I’m really looking forward to reading about the process! The college I went to allows students to raise service dog candidates, and I really regret never doing that before I graduated.
