K9 Nose Work TM is crazy fun. For you. For your dog. Wondering what K9 Nose Work is? I thought so. Take a look at this video to see some K9 Nose Work dogs in action! Smart Dog University has a new K9 Nose Work class scheduled to start August 3 (6:30p in Frederick, MD), if you think your dog would be interested. (Hint: You'll love it!)
They do nosework with the dogs at our shelter now- no training, just hiding treats in scattered boxes. As the dogs get savvier, the make the hides even harder. For one of our most excitable bully mixes, we were stacking boxes into tangled skyscrapers with just one or two bits of hot dog tucked away inside.
It really does the dogs a lot of good to get out and have a real chance to use not only their nose, but their brain. It provides direly needed stimulation in what can only be a barren environment, even in the best of shelters.
